Here is a post, apparently I have not updated in quite some time. I suggest you try Facebook for more timely info. Anyway, the baby and the rest of us are doing well. |
|
The movie just stopped playing, we were really getting annoyed for a bit. At least it came back eventually. Their tech support confirmed that they had 10-minute outage. We were watching "The Business of Being Born". |

After my current 6 credits, gotta take 9 more and then I will be done! |

Amazon has a new MP3 store, I just downloaded one of the new BNL songs (since no one's bought me the CD yet!), it worked really well. "Something You'll Never Find"

So, I haven't posted in a very long time. I started evening school at UW, which had its first class in that last week of September. Between a big project at work, school, and the baby, I have no time to do anything. But finally things are starting to settle down slightly, so I have just enough time to say Happy Thanksgiving!
My last class for the quarter is December 5th, so that will be good. Shoot, I was supposed to register for my next class last week, I will have to do it first thing Monday. |
| » 85 and no hiccups |
Wow, tomorrow's high is supposed to be 85 degrees!
Also, I tried the "spoon full of sugar" method to get rid of hiccups, and it worked immediately! Just like the Internet said it would.
I worked all weekend :-/ but hopefully it means less work next weekend. Last weekend we were in Boston and Long Island tho, that was fun!

Hmm, I havent posted in a long time. At the end of Februrary we moved to a new apartment, its a bunch bigger so that is nice. Since then I have been working like crazy on a project with rediculous deadlines at work, so that is annoying. I got a raise though :-). Next weekend we are flying to Boston and then driving to New York City and then flying home, so it will be nice to see people.
Also, since I have been so busy, I have 300 unread emails in my inbox, so if you want attention, please call me instead.

| » Stupid web site maintenance |
I like to pay my bills, online, on sunday nights. The problem with living on the west coast, is that everyone on the East coast is asleep by now, so the maintenace people figure its okay if their websites are dead for a little bit. Who will notice? I will notice! This happens to me pretty much all the time. :-/ Oh well.

| » How to make a family-only website? |
Hypothetically: I want to make a web site where I can post my pictures, my address, and my personal details. I want to be able to easily share this web site with my friends and family members, but not with the world. How can I have a hassle-free way to authenticate family members?
Assigning each person a username and password seems like overkill, and no one would remember them. Another idea I had is that I could ask them personal questions about myself.... "When is my birthday?" "What color are my eyes?" "Where does my brother work?" "What is my mother's maiden name?". How about I could email each person a "special link" and tell them to bookmark it (they don't all know what a bookmark is). I could give them each a business card with a "special link" or code on it; they could probably keep track of something like this pretty well, but it also seems like a hassle.
Any ideas out there?

| » Improve your credit score... |
...by paying your credit card twice a month. Why? So, one of the key metrics of your credit score is the amount of your credit that you are currently using. That is, if I have spent half of my credit limit on my credit card, and even if I pay it all off right away, I still end up with bad credit. This is because the balance on your credit card is reported to the credit bureau directly off your monthly statement. So, they way to get around this is by paying your credit card on the internet. You pay once just before the end of your period, and then again when your bill comes, and then it looks like you're using alot less credit. I read a recommendation that for the best score, you should be using less than like 10% or 20% of your credit (yeesh!).
Also, about how you keep hearing people say that you should try to not pay off your bills completely so that the credit card company gets some interest and you can demonstrate your ability to pay things off over time? Well, I'm not sure if I beleive that, but I am pretty sure that if you try such a thing, you should still make a point of paying more than the minimum balance, because they just seem like they (that is, my credit card company does) track "did you pay less, equal, or more than minimum".

| » Meetings |
I don't like running meetings unless I know exactly what is going on and why did each of the other people come to the meeting. Especially, I don't like running a meeting where everyone else is a manager and I don't know what they are managers of. I had a meeting like that yesterday. Oh well.

| » Video Games! |
So, lately I have been wanting to play video games, in general. I did not game all through college. But now, my craving has led me to, last night, install Windows XP on my computer (I mainly use Linux, but dual booting now). Now I just need some games.
In other news, we got a Christmas tree last weekend. It's my first real Christmas tree. It's nice though. I am making good progress on my Christmas shopping. I think I need maybe one more thing for my Mom. (I am pretty happy with Amazon's gift organizer. Some room for tweaking, but still useful to keep tab's on everyone's wish lists. I just checked it out and got some more ideas for my Mom....)
Why is it so easy to be messy? I think we need to buy some more bookshelves or something, to put stuff on.
Candles. Finally dorm living is over, and therefore we have had some candles to burn.

| » F-18 Hornet 3.0 |
So for the last 6 months or so I have had an itching to play this flight simulator game, F18 Hornet. It was once of the early 3D games that I was exposed to (think 1997). For a long time I managed to hang on to the EXE file, but finally all copies were lost in disk crashes. Finally, I have found it again! It was not easy. I used some old Usenet posts to eventually figure out the name of the company. Then, I had to use The Way Back Machine to check out their old web site. From here, I discoverd the filename, Hornet3demoW95.exe. Googling for this, I found two web sites which claimed to have the program, but the download links were nearly all broken. Anyhow, one finally did work, and here's the game: hornet3demow95.exe ("For Windows 95 and NT 4"). As a bonus, this app seems to run flawlessly in Linux under Wine. Yay!
